Assignment One influences

My main reference that i used for creating the ad is the intro video of the video game Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

I really liked the use of typography featured in the video. As you will be able to tell I took the zooming out transition that is shown in the video and used it as my primary feature in mine.

For the images I decided that it would appeal better if it was drawn rather than photographs, mostly to keep its colouring and styles the same.

For the typography, I placed them in area to appeal or to compliment the drawings, viewers didn't need to read or understand what it's about as the end of the video justifies its purpose.

The text in the video is actually from Tao Te Ching, chapter 78; it explains the effectiveness of both 'hard' (yin) and 'soft' (yang) techniques, and the value of using 'soft' techniques against even the strongest of opponents.

The end result of the commercial is feature below:

Cheap Crazy Ad

We were given an exercise with constraints to make a TV commercial that's crazy. I took influences from Crazy Clarks and ads like Rivers. I also looked into some American Ads just for some inspirations.

This is my result I ended up:

Jump Exercise

In this exercise I learned how to mask images with the pen tool. This is a quick and easy way of masking out the images. I used to do this in photoshop exporting it out as a transparent image but with this tool it saves so much time. For the jump I listened to what was said in the lecture about keyframing. Don't just make three keys that will make only the image go up and down rather play a little with the timing to make it more life like even though its just an image.

Spatial Montage & Temporal Montage

Using the 6 image given I have created a collage of buildings. Using the magic wand tool in photoshop I've manged to get rid of the sky as well as some building. To make the buildings blend in with each other I used the adjustment layers playing around with the curves and putting in some gradients.

In the next task I used the same scene and loaded it into after effects. Using the masking tools I've manage to make the buildings appear to rise. I also made the layers in 3d so I can play around with the camera to give then scene some depth.
